Science and ICT for Level 4: units, digital security and practical revision

Science, technology, public health and current affairs appear together in section 6 of the Level 4 pre-test syllabus. Divide revision into stable concepts and facts that need frequent updating. Scientific units and basic security habits are different study tasks from current appointments or recent events.
Start with units and scale
Before calculating, identify what is measured and the unit used. In a learning example, 2.5 kilometres equals 2,500 metres. An answer of 250 metres is not a minor rounding issue; it reflects a unit-conversion error. Write conversion factors explicitly until the process becomes reliable.
ICT: choose the control that addresses the problem
If an email asks you to enter your password on an unfamiliar website, verify the destination independently instead of using the message’s link. Do not assume that a familiar display name proves the sender is authentic. A strong password does not prevent you from voluntarily entering it on a deceptive page.
Backups and access control solve different problems
A backup supports recovery after loss or corruption. Access control restricts who can view or change information. Neither is a complete substitute for the other. A practical MCQ may describe one problem and offer several generally useful tools; choose the tool that addresses that specific problem.
Data and information
A list of individual transaction amounts is data. A properly calculated summary can provide information for a decision. Check the source, completeness and period of a dataset before trusting a chart. A visually polished graph can still use unsuitable data.
Public health and current affairs
Use authoritative health sources for health-related facts and current official releases for changing events. These notes do not provide medical advice. Keep a separate dated current-affairs sheet and remove claims whose source or reference period cannot be established.
For each revision item, write: concept, practical example, common mistake and source. This makes a short study session more useful than memorizing disconnected abbreviations.
Try bilingual science and ICT practice. Scope: official pre-test syllabus, section 6. Original learning examples checked 1 November 2026. The short question set does not cover the complete section.
